Can Cats Eat Fruit? Here’s What You Can (Safely) Share
Share
So, you’re sitting there slicing up some fruit, and suddenly—there’s your cat, giving you that look. You know the one. Curious eyes, twitching nose, and acting like your snack might be the next best thing since catnip.
And then you wonder:
“Can my cat eat this?”
The honest answer is: probably. Our kitties can be picky eaters. However, there are some fruits that are safe for them in smaller amounts. While they’re not a must-have in their diet, a bit of fruit every now and again will not harm them, as long as you are selective in what you give them.
Let’s go through some cat-safe fruits you might already have in your kitchen.
Cat-Safe Fruits You Can Try
🍌 Banana
Soft, sweet, and easy on the tummy. Most cats will sniff it—some may even love it!
🍎 Apple (No Seeds!)
Crisp and refreshing. Just be sure to remove the seeds first.
🍉 Watermelon
Hot day? Watermelon is a great way to keep your cat hydrated.
🥭 Mango
A hit or miss, but worth a try! Some cats enjoy the soft texture.
🍓 Strawberry
Some cats are curious about the smell more than the taste.
Fruits You Should Never Feed Your Cat
Just because it's healthy for you doesn’t mean it's safe for your cat. Keep these far away:
-
Grapes or raisins – Can damage kidneys.
-
Citrus fruits – Too acidic.
-
Cherries – Seeds and stems are toxic.
-
Avocado – Not good for cats due to a substance called persin.
You don’t need to turn your cat into a fruit fan. But it’s good to know that if they’re curious, a small taste of banana or watermelon is totally fine.
Just one more way to treat your little furball with love… and maybe get a cute photo out of it too. 📸🐱
